The Problem

Currently, up to 80% of neonatal surgeries result in death. Over two million newborns die before their first birthday every year.

  • Infant and fetal surgeries often require extreme precision and demand a highly specialized and skilled surgical team. Few hospitals in the world can perform these surgeries and keep up with caseloads.

  • Due to the disadvantages their communities face, African-American infants have 2.4 times the infant mortality rate as white infants.

The Future of Surgery

Click above to read more about Pediabots.

We propose our microbotic technology, Pediabots, to help infants and fetuses unable to receive proper surgery.

  • We will leverage MEMS (micro-electromechanical systems) to make our Pediabots small, flocking and planning algorithms to get them to work together, and localization algorithms to help them navigate through patients’ bodies.

  • Our Pediabots will enable more complex surgeries such as Twin Reversed Arterial Perfusion (TRAP) and Fetoscopic Endoluminal Tracheal Occlusion (FETO) and save the lives of many infants and fetuses.
