What is the ETM?
The ETM, or Enhanced Therapy Machine is a device designed to bring mental health aid information to those who need it but have little training. It gives more options to those needing to act in potentially dangerous situations, such as public violence or self harm. The ETM would not be given to anyone, as there can be some dire consequences that would only increase as technologies improve. Still, the scope of the ETM would also increase drastically, the goal being able to accurately and proactively find dangerous mental health issues based on facial recognition software and provide apt advice.
Applications
School Administration
Many cases of mental health issues and outbursts happen in schools. By placing this technology in the hands of school administration, we can enable school nurses and teachers who may or may not have the training to deal with outbursts of mental illness help school children in a reactive sense.
Of the ETM
Law Enforcement Agencies
While mental illness is in no way the only cause of violence (in fact, past circumstances and abuse can be way more of a factor) it can impact the actions a person can take in extreme situations. Seeing as the police and other law enforcement most often already have the information on an individual's past circumstances, this program could provide additional input in extreme situations. Giving the ETM to people such as the police can help them make more educated choices and prevent mistakes.
