History

NASA Food 3D Printer

  • In 2006, NASA started researching 3D printed foods.

  • In 2013, NASA started the NASA Advanced Food Program.

  • The NASA Advanced Food Program's goal is to make food more attractive, unlike the dull freeze dried foods of the past.

  • Food 3D printers were created around the same time as low-cost filament 3D printers.

  • Food 3D printers are healthy and good for the environment because it utilizes plentiful plant based alternative ingredients.

  • Food 3D printers can allow for food customization to individual needs and preferences.
