“A LONG-TERM SOLUTION TO A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM"

Type Two Diabetes

Type two diabetes occurs when your body doesn’t use glucose in the way it needs to, which causes glucose levels to become imbalanced.

Causes

  • Unhealthy diet

  • Obesity

  • Aging

The Physiology

  • The pancreas is an organ in the abdomen that helps digest food and control blood sugar levels.

  • The pancreas releases a hormone called insulin. Insulin allows the cells to use energy.

  • When the cells do not use the energy correctly, insulin resistance develops.

  • Once insulin resistance develops, the pancreas must produce more insulin until it cannot produce enough to cope with elevated blood sugar.

  • As the blood sugar rises, type two diabetes develops.
