The Physiology
-
The pancreas is an organ in the abdomen that helps digest food and control blood sugar levels.
-
The pancreas releases a hormone called insulin. Insulin allows the cells to use energy.
-
When the cells do not use the energy correctly, insulin resistance develops.
-
Once insulin resistance develops, the pancreas must produce more insulin until it cannot produce enough to cope with elevated blood sugar.
-
As the blood sugar rises, type two diabetes develops.
