The initial tests helped refine surface designs and identifying the most effective patterns for real-world conditions. We interviewed City of Lone Tree Public Works Department and Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) engineers. We are in the process of identifying the tests done in  CDOT to determine feasibility for further testing.

Our interviews with the engineers confirmed that

  • Texture or patterns over concrete is durable and effective than asphalt. The determination of asphalt vs concrete roads are based on cost analysis and traffic pattern.

  • Patterns created in burlap or artificial turf kind of materials/fabrics will help create a texture in concrete for durability

  • Our next step is pilot preparation: to create stamps in different materials and add it in concrete before it cures.
