The Problem

Artificial limbs are designed primarily for either function or cosmetic appearance, not both. Prosthetics should ideally be easy to control, comfortable to wear, and cosmetically appealing. Patients often have trouble finding the right prosthetic due to the inflammatory response of cells to the material of the prosthetic. Amputees may also experience pain in other limbs from overusing them, because their new prosthetic does not meet their needs. Some may feel self-conscious and insecure with their artificial limb, therefore opting for a more cosmetically satisfying option, sacrificing function.

The Solution

The unLIMBited technology contains induced pluripotent stem cells which are placed on a 3D printed hyperelastic bone polymer made from hydroxyapatite. With this technology, amputees will be able to regenerate limbs that appear and function as their original body parts. They are able to control the actions of their new limb as they would their other extremities, allowing them to feel whole again and restoring their confidence and self-worth.
